On Monday, August 25 in the Chapel of the Apostles, the School of Theology matriculated 34 seminarians from all over the United States and the world—bringing the number of students beginning degree programs this academic year to a total of 37.
During the Holy Eucharist and Matriculation service students were admitted to the classes of 2026, 2027, and 2028 by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Robert Pearigen and Provost Dr. Scott Wilson. Students signed the Matriculation Book before being gowned—a long-standing matriculation tradition at both the School of Theology and the College of Arts & Sciences of the University of the South.
Incoming seminarians hail from Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, and fifteen U.S. dioceses including the Episcopal Dioceses of Connecticut, the Great Lakes, Central Pennsylvania, the Central Gulf Coast, Georgia, Lexington, Louisiana, Northern Indiana, Pennsylvania, Western Louisiana, the Rio Grande, Texas, West Missouri, Alabama, and Arkansas.
New faculty members, Dr. Mark Ardrey-Graves assistant professor of church music and the Rev. Sarah Ardrey-Graves associate dean for spiritual and professional formation, were also formally welcomed to the School of Theology.
What a warm welcome it was for all new members of our community.
