The Rev. Dr. Britta Meiers Carlson, visiting assistant professor of Practical Theology, was awarded a Conant Grant for her project, “A unique commemoration of the 1700th Anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea.” The project is designed to support Dr. Meiers Carlson in ongoing development of courses she teaches in ecclesiology and church leadership. The project lends robust attention to how the conciliar and creedal traditions of the church enable faithfulness in navigating ministry challenges in the present. One key component of the project is Dr. Meiers Carlson’s participation in Dissent, Power, and Christian Identity after Nicaea, The Sixteenth International Conference of the Ecclesiological Investigations International Research Network in Thessaloniki, Greece where she will also present some of her research in a paper entitled "Performing Pilgrimage: Political Ecclesiology in Immigrant Solidarity Work."

Conant Grant funds are designated for the improvement of seminary-based theological education. Specifically, the grants are directed for the support of research, writing, and course development by faculty members at the recognized Episcopal seminaries in the United States. You can read more about the Conant Fund Grant here.
