Chapel of the Apostles Sacristan Ministry

The School of Theology Sacristans serve as stewards of worship in the Chapel of the Apostles. They ensure proper preparations for the Daily Office, Eucharists, and special services of the School of Theology, including vestments, elements, and linens. They are a peer resource for fellow students as they learn to participate in and lead worship in the Anglican tradition.

Sacristans are Master of Divinity students selected each year by application and interview with current sacristans. There are typically four students from each M.Div. class, with one person serving as head sacristan. Applications are solicited in October of each year. Prior experience on altar guild or as a verger is not required and all necessary training will be provided by peers. Love of liturgy and corporate prayer, attention to detail, grace in stressful situations, and a sense of humor are essential to this ministry.
