The Rev. Dr. Katherine Sonderegger to Lecture

On Thursday March 30, the School of Theology of the University of the South welcomes the Rev. Katherine Sonderegger, Professor of Theology at Virginia Theological Seminary. Dr. Sonderegger will deliver a lecture entitled, “Strongly unique? How Christ’s humanity is like and unlike our own.” The lecture will take place at 3:30 p.m. in Cravens Hall on the campus of the University of the South (435 Kentucky Avenue). The lecture is free and open to the public. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Rev. Canon Dr. Lizette Larson-Miller to hold the 2023 Annual Lectures

On Sept. 28 the Rev. Canon Dr. Lizette Larson-Miller will hold a three-lecture series at the School of Theology in Sewanee, Tennessee. Entitled “Essential Baptism,” the lecture series will explore fundamental questions surrounding baptism, sacramental initiation, and eschatological belonging. Join us on campus or via livestream.

Confronting Confederate Monuments: Preaching, Liturgy, and Leadership for Change

Attention Clergy! The School of Theology, the Roberson Project, and the Center for Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation will co-host the workshop. Confronting Confederate Monuments: Preaching, Liturgy, and Leadership for Change, May 2-4, 2023, on the campus of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. This three-day, two-night workshop is designed to equip clergy with tools for confronting Confederate monuments in their churches and communities. The conference fee is $150.

Lecture: The Barbie & Pocahontas Dialogues

On March 1, the School of Theology hosted the Rev. Melissa Kean, T'19, Memorial Lecture which was held by the Rev. Rachel Taber-Hamilton. As a Shackan member of the First Nation, Taber-Hamilton represents the Episcopal Church on the board of the Anglican Indigenous Network and is the Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Everett, WA.  A recording of her lecture entitled “ The Barbie & Pocahontas Dialogues: Healing the Cultural Divide Between Indigenous Episcopalians and the Church,” is available for viewing.

The Rev. Canon Professor Mark Chapman to Lecture

On Wed., Feb. 8 the School of Theology at the University of the South welcomed guest lecturer the Rev. Canon Professor Mark Chapman of Oxford University. His lecture entitled “Liturgies of War and Peace,” was held at 7 p.m. CST in Convocation Hall on the campus of the University of the South. A recording of the lecture is now available.
