The School of Theology Annual Lectures & Homecoming event is just days away. We are looking forward to having you with us Sept. 26-28 for two days of reunion, learning, and rejuvenation. The annual lecture series, to be given by the Rev. Canon Dr. Lizette Larson-Miller, is the cornerstone of a two-day long homecoming event, which also includes a semi-formal cocktail reception and banquet dinner, continuing education workshops, EfM gatherings with the new executive director, the Rev. Kevin M. Goodman, communal worship, guided hikes, and other organized activities.

About the Annual Lectures
On Sept. 27 the Rev. Canon Dr. Lizette Larson-Miller will give a three-lecture series entitled “Essential Baptism.” The lecture series will explore fundamental questions surrounding baptism, sacramental initiation, and eschatological belonging. All lectures will be held in Guerry Auditorium on the campus of the University of the South. The lecture series is free and open to the public. A Continuing Education Attestation will be available at the lectures for attendees interested in receiving continuing theological education hours. Read more.
Continuing Education Workshops
On the morning of Sept. 28 the School of Theology will offer a choice of workshops for continuing education hours. Workshops will be offered in two time slots during the morning, making it possible for participants to select two different workshops from the following offerings:
- "Big, Holy Questions: Spiritual Accompaniment for Children and Ourselves," presented by the Rev. Claire Brown, Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Athens, TN
- "Education for Ministry: From Seminars to Streets," presented by the Rev. Kevin Goodman, Executive Director of Education for Ministry (EfM)
- "Boundaries, Identity, and Belonging: Observations of Christian Practice on a College Campus," presented by the Rev. Marcus George Halley, D.Min., T’15, T’22, Chaplain to the College and Dean of Spiritual and Religious Life, Trinity College, Hartford, CT
- "Using the Catechumenate as Baptismal Formation," presented by the Very Rev. James Turrell, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Theology, and the Rev. Melissa M. Hartley, Ph.D., C’93 Senior Associate University Chaplain
Workshop attendance is free to those registered for the Homecoming Event, which includes a festive banquet and other organized activities. Those who do not wish to register for the Homecoming Event, may register for up to two workshops for a flat fee of $40. Advanced workshop registration is required.
