Cynthia S.W. Crysdale is professor of Christian ethics and theology at the School of Theology at the University of the South, Sewanee. Before going to Sewanee, Crysdale taught for 18 years at The Catholic University of America. Crysdale graduated from York University in Toronto, Canada, with a B.A. degree in psychology. She earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in theology from St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto.

Crysdale specializes in foundational theology and ethics with an expertise on the work of Roman Catholic theologian, Bernard Lonergan. She has authored Embracing Travail: Retrieving the Cross Today (Continuum, 1999) and edited Lonergan and Feminism (University of Toronto Press, 1994). Her most recent publication is Creator God Evolving World, co-authored with Neil Ormerod of the Australian Catholic University. She has also authored numerous articles, which have appeared in such publications as the Journal of the Society of Christian EthicsTheoforumCross Currents, and Theological Studies. She is currently working on a book entitled Transformed Lives: Making Sense of Atonement Today, to be published by Church Publishing Inc.

Crysdale’s professional involvement includes membership in The American Theological Society, The American Academy of Religion, and The Canadian Theological Society.
