Each year the Missions Committee of the School of Theology collects cash donations from students, faculty, and staff, which are donated to Mid-Cumberland Mountain Ministries (MCMM) for its Santa on the Mountain ministry. Last year, the School of Theology raised $1,222. This year the committee wants to exceed that amount.
Since 2002, area parents who might not otherwise be able to provide a present for their children on Christmas morning have been invited to come to the MCMM office at Church of the Holy Comforter and select a gift for their children. This specific ministry is funded primarily through the Mission Committee of the School of Theology at Sewanee and supplemented by community donations. This program was expanded to include Santa in the Valley through a grant made to Church of the Epiphany, Sherwood, to supplement a program of that congregation that provides clothes, food, and toys to families in Crow Creek Valley.
MCMM was established through grants from the Tennessee Department of Housing Administration in 1988. They support the dignity and stability of God’s people by providing resources to Franklin, Grundy, and Marion Counties for housing, education, enrichment, and acute needs. MCMM’s clients are anyone in need who lives in Franklin, Grundy, or Marion counties regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or religious affiliation.
There will be gift-wrapped collection boxes in each of the student classrooms and in Charline Hookey's office beginning this Thursday, Nov. 12, through Monday, Nov. 23. To make a donation, write a check payable to: The School of Theology and on the memo of check write: Santa on the Mountain. Each gift, no matter the size, will go to helping a family. Please join the Mission Committee in supporting our greater community through this Christmas project.
