Quiet Day Will Be Led by Bishop Wayne Smith

The 2016 Quiet Day Retreat will be led by Bishop Wayne Smith at St. Mary’s Sewanee on Monday, Aug. 22.

The Rt. Rev. George Wayne Smith, T'93, was elected bishop coadjutor of the Diocese of Missouri on Nov. 10, 2002 and was ordained as 10th bishop of Missouri on June 6, 2002. Before his election, Smith was rector of St. Andrew’s in Des Moines, Iowa, and had previously served congregations in Michigan and Texas. He was ordained a deacon in 1981 and a priest in 1982 for the Diocese of Northwest Texas.

A native of Abilene, Texas, he was born Jan. 29, 1955. Raised a Baptist, he was a student at Baylor University when he became an Episcopalian. He graduated from Baylor University with two degrees, B.A. in 1975 and M.A. in 1978.  He received the M.Div. in 1981 from Nashotah House and the D.Min. in 1993 from the University of the South. 

The topic for this year’s retreat is “Resources for Vocation: Baptism; Geography, and Holy Orders.”
