James M. Goodmann

Goodmann is the associate director of the programs center at The School of Theology at the University of the South. Before returning to Sewanee in March, 2013, Goodmann served director of congregational grants at The Fund for Theological Education (FTE) in Atlanta, Ga. (2007–12). Prior to that, he served as program director for the Lilly Endowment-funded Theological Exploration of Vocation at Sewanee, with a focus on working with undergraduates in vocational discernment. Earlier appointments include serving as director of campus ministry and the Peace and Justice Center at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Goodman’s career in ministry and education has also included teaching, association management and serving as an outreach minister in New York City. He is a graduate of the University of St. Michael's College in Toronto and holds a master of divinity degree from Yale Divinity School. He is a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Atlanta. His reviews of writings on theology, spirituality and social questions have appeared in the Sewanee Theological Review and The National Catholic Reporter.
