The School of Theology includes 14 faculty and 10 contingent faculty, all with advanced degrees. All full time, and most adjunct faculty, have doctoral degrees in a theological discipline from institutions such as Princeton, Duke Exeter, Yale, Oxford, Vanderbilt, and St. Michael's College, Toronto. They are men and women committed to the highest scholarship, providing direction in spiritual formation, and the skills and knowledge required to guide students to become committed, effective ordained clergy.
The Sewanee faculty provides a theological resource for laity in extension programs developed through the School of Theology Programs Center for the church. These include Education for Ministry (EFM), the Center for Ministry in Small Churches (CMSC), the Fellow- and Bishop-in-Residence programs, and other continuing education.
School of Theology faculty consistently write, speak, preach, lead retreats, minister in congregations, and are engaged in the church throughout the country. As a graduate school within the University, they share the ministry of teaching with the faculty at the College of Arts and Sciences who teach more than 1,400 undergraduate students.
