Spouses of the Seminary
Mission Statement
The Spouses of the Seminary (SOS) provide a community in which spouses feel understood, loved, accepted, and welcomed into friendships with other spouses. We model and support Christian relationships that encourage and engage in meaningful outreach ministry to the spouses, seminary families, and the Sewanee community, while preparing for a life of ministry.
Who are We?
The SOS is composed of all spouses of seminarians, faculty, and staff from The School of Theology at the University of the South. The SOS meets the third Tuesday of each month during the academic year for programs, fun, fellowship, and support. The SOS also organizes several events during the year for the entire seminary community. These include summer community picnics, day hiking trips, a Christmas party, and panel discussions.
Fundraising
The SOS raises funds through the sale of The School of Theology logo merchandise. Proceeds from sales go toward the development of spiritual, social, and support programs for spouses of seminarians and School of Theology students. These programs provide avenues for spiritual growth, faith formation, and emotional support and development, which are critical to the spouses’ ministry.
