John Solomon, visiting instructor in pastoral Spanish, has organized a trip to Cuba for alumni/ae and friends of The School of Theology from Jan. 8 through Jan. 13, 2014. Highlights of the trip include visiting Episcopal parishes in Cardenas, Limonar, and Coliseo; a lunch and afternoon visit at the Seminario Evangélico de Teología; a walking tour of Old Havana; and a Sunday service at the Episcopal Cathedral followed by lunch with the Episcopal Bishop of Cuba, Griselda Delgado. Wednesday, Jan. 8th: We meet at 5:00AM at Miami International Airport for an 8:00AM flight to Havana where we will be taken by bus to Varadero, about two hours east of Havana. We will stay at the Hotel Paradisius.
Thursday, Jan. 9th: After a leisurely breakfast, we will take a day trip to visit Episcopal parishes located in Cardenas, Limonar and Coliseo.
Friday, Jan. 10th: A mid-morning departure from Hotel Paradisius for Matanzas gets us to a barbeque lunch with seminarians and staff at the Seminario Evangélico de Teología. Mid-afternoon, we will leave for Havana where we will be staying at the Hotel Parque Central in the heart of downtown Havana. Friday evening we will dine at a “paladar”, a privately owned restaurant typically located in a private home.
Saturday, Jan. 11th: In the morning, we will take a walking tour of Old Havana. In the afternoon, we will tour modern Havana.
Sunday, Jan. 12th: We will attend the 9:30AM service at the Episcopal Cathedral followed by lunch with the Episcopal Bishop of Cuba, Griselda Delgado. In the afternoon, we will go to the Mercado de Artesanias, an arts and crafts market by the Havana port. There will be a surprise engagement after dinner.
Monday, Jan. 13th: We will make a 6:30AM departure from the hotel for the flight back to Miami.
The per person costs below, based on a group of 20-25, include:
• Airfare to/from Havana from Miami.
• Medical insurance coverage (up to $25,000).
• Ground transportation in Cuba.
• Full time guide.
• All meals with exception of lunch Friday (estimated cost of $15), dinner Friday evening (estimated cost $25) and lunch on Sunday (estimated cost of $25).

Additional costs: Cost of a visa to enter Cuba (approximately $120); a departure tax of approximately $30; and, tips for the guide and driver (allow $100).
The Episcopal Diocese of Cuba will manage the entry visa process to obtain the necessary documents into the country.
The group will travel to Cuba under the Department of Treasury’s General License provision that allows for travel to the country for religious activities under the auspices of a religious organization.
