About The School of Theology

Degree Programs

The School of Theology focuses on formation of clergy through the three-year residential Master of Divinity program. The School also offers a Master of Theology program for laity and a Doctor of Ministry program for clergy continuing education.

Financial Aid

Sewanee provides a $5,584 basic scholarship for every residential M. Div. and M.A. student, up $1,000 from previous years. A generous endowment provides financial aid beyond the basic scholarship, up to 80 percent of demonstrated need.

Faculty

Scholarship at Sewanee starts with the faculty, who carry on with active research and are regularly cited, nationally and internationally, for their publications.

Resources

The school has strong links to social justice and diversity organizations, including Gamaliel and the Kaleidoscope Institute, and the Episcopal Church’s Office of Latino/Hispanic Ministries.

Formation

Sewanee's setting in the midst of the Cumberland Plateau contributes to spiritual formation by bringing students into close communion with God’s Creation and providing opportunities for reflection, worship, and prayer within a strong and vibrant community.

Purpose Statement

The School of Theology is a leader in Episcopal education that prepares priests and lay leaders for ministry in witness and service to the Triune God rooted in scripture, theology, prayer, and reflective practice. Its academic, worship and community life is characterized by intentional commitment to the mission of the Church, especially through Christian education and formation and to the Church's call to social justice.
